The reception-luncheon to welcome the new Silver City Arts and Cultural District Executive Director Colleen Morton took place at the Sunset Room of the Western New Mexico University cafeteria on Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2017, at noon.

WNMU President Joseph Shepard welcomed those attending and introduced Morton.

"I'm delighted to be here," Morton said. "I bought a house here five years ago. I was delighted to happen across this job posting, so I applied and here I am."

She said she has traveled throughout the Southwest U.S. and South America. "I recently started a tourism support business, so this fits right in. I feel that a lot of my activities have been building to this, which is hopefully, my last job."

"I'm here to help you grow," Morton said. "The arts and cultural districts were formed for that purpose. I feel strongly that Silver City has huge potential. Sometimes, things create friction, but out of friction comes fire."

Attendees ate finger sandwiches and small dessert tarts, while mingling and chatting among friends and introducing themselves to Morton.
