The Silver Consolidated Schools Board of Education Special Meeting took place Thursday, November 9, 2017 at 5:30 pm in the board room of the Silver Schools Administration Building.

Board President Mike McMillan called the meeting to order and explained the action items were to address the board vacancy - announcing the position and setting up interviews.

Former board member Justin Wecks submitted his resignation effective October 31, 2017 after moving from the district he was elected in. State statute indicates board members cannot serve for a district different from the one in which they reside.

The requirements of the individuals interested in serving on the board are listed in the vacancy announcement. Examples include physically residing in the district and being registered to vote.

Frances Vasquez said, ā€œIā€™m wondering if we can announce this on social media as well as physical newspapers.ā€

Patrick Cohn responded that he feels it is sufficient to put the notice in both print and social media.

Vasquez said such an announcement looks a lot like a legal notice and that maybe they could provide a press release as well.

McMillan stated the press release could be a snapshot of the requirements and could direct interested parties to the administrative building to see the full document.

After a brief discussion the board agreed the deadline for applications is 4:30 pm on December 1 with interviews held at a special meeting December 6 at 5:30 pm.

In non-action items, the board will review facilitator proposals for their upcoming retreat. They want to fill the vacancy on the board before proceeding.

The next Regular Meeting of the Silver Consolidated Schools Board of Education will be November 21, 2017 at 6:00 pm with the Work Session immediately preceding at 5:30 pm. Both meetings take place at the Silver Schools Administration Building located at 2810 North Swan Street in Silver City.
