The morning of Saturday, Nov. 18, at about 4, Silver City police officers were dispatched to 705 D Street on a disturbance call. Dispatch advised they could hear someone yelling for help and that somebody was “bleeding out.” When officers arrived, according to a police report, they saw Michael Marquez Jr., 27, of the address, on the ground, with blood all over his body from lacerations to his left hand, left face cheek, back and head, being attended by his mother.

According to the report, a witness stated she saw Jessie Marquez, 21, of the address, running with a kitchen knife in each hand, after the victim and another man. She then saw Jessie Marquez run off.

After officers found a knife thrown by Jessie Marquez in an adjacent yard, which had a black handle and blood on it, they observed Jessie Marquez, who they knew from previous encounters, running west on 7th Street, where officers ordered him to get on the ground. He did, was handcuffed, taken to SCPD to be interviewed, and transported to the Grant County Detention Center.

The victim was transported to Gila Regional Medical Center.

According to the report, Jessie Marquez was charged with three offenses; assault with a knife, aggravated battery, and resisting an officer. He remains in custody at GCDC, as of Monday, Nov, 27, on a no-bond hold, according to GCDC staff.
