According to Silver City Police Chief Ed Reynolds, his department was made aware of a threat circulating on social media referring to a possible shooting at Silver High School at about 6:30-7 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 22. Reynolds immediately dispatched uniformed officers to the high school and to La Plata Middle School, as well as sending additional patrols to other area schools.

Continuing to investigate the possible source of the threat, SCPD determined the threat originated in Springfield, Ohio, Reynolds said. The public information officer for the Springfield Police Department stated the threat is localized to the Springfield area and is being investigated by their department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Reynolds said, there is no viable threat to Silver City schools related to the information circulated on social media the morning of Thursday, Feb. 22. However, Reynolds told the Beat that a uniformed officer presence will be maintained through Thursday, Feb. 22 and Friday, Feb. 23, at the high school and middle school and heavy patrols will continue at other city schools.
