The Village of Santa Clara Regular Meeting took place Thursday, March 8, 2018 in the Village Hall. Trustees Olga Amador, Victor Arambula, Harry "Rocky" Hildebrand, Mayor Pro Tem Albert Esparza, and Mayor Richard Bauch attended.

Bauch reported the library has opened to the public, operating from 9 am to 11 am Monday through Thursday and until 3:30 pm on Friday. "All the people involved did a wonderful job," said Bauch, "I'm hoping the community utilizes it. There are lots of books for the young people." Bauch also said he looks forward to the day when the village has a new building for the library.

Next Wednesday Bauch and Clerk Treasurer Sheila Hudman head to Socorro for Colonias review. Santa Clara seeks Colonias funding to help complete the sidewalk and lighting project, mostly drainage by Encino.

Hudman is also attending a workshop in Santa Fe to learn the new calculation and reporting system for budgeting after the state changed its format.

Bauch also shared a letter from the Historical Preservation Society as Santa Clara is up for an award for historical preservation planning. The society will make their decision by mid-April and inform the village if they won.

In new business, Bauch recommended reappointing Mayor Pro Tem Esparza, Clerk Treasurer Hudman, Police Chief Lonnie Sandoval, and Fire Chief Joeadam Gallegos. Bauch also recommended reaffirming all village employees. Trustees moved and passed all reappointments and reaffirmations.

The trustees spoke briefly about the lack of volunteers for the fire department. Even with signs asking for volunteer help they are looking for other ways to gain more exposure for the department.

Resolution 2018-21 came before the trustees which grants $200,000 of aid from the New Mexico Department of Transportation. This will help the paving, drainage, and sidewalk improvement projects, particularly on Bellm Street. The resolution passed unanimously.

The next Regular Meeting of the Village of Santa Clara happens Thursday, March 22, 2018 at 6:00 pm at the Village of Santa Clara Village Hall located at 105 N. Bayard Street.
