SILVER CITY, NM – Today, the Grant County Board of Commissioners announced a series of informational meetings to discuss the future of Gila Regional Medical Center.

Commissioners will hold a public meeting on April 26 to provide an update on the partnership search process and to listen to members of the community. Meetings with physicians and GRMC employees are also being scheduled.

In order to provide a comprehensive update, the meetings are scheduled after the commission has heard presentations from potential GRMC partners and GRMC leaders. It’s important to know that no decisions have yet been made about GRMC’s future.

“The community is interested in the future of local healthcare and the County Commission is committed to keeping the community, physicians and GRMC staff informed,” said Grant County Commissioner Alicia Edwards. “These meetings will give commissioners a chance to update all stakeholders about the work being done to ensure our local healthcare future, as well as an opportunity for us to listen and learn. The commission is committed to transparency and we look forward to the meetings later this month.”

In addition to the meeting series, the commission established a public website, GRMCForward.org, to provide timely updates and give the community a chance to ask questions and make their voices heard.

The decision to explore partnership options comes in light of sweeping changes taking place in today’s healthcare industry. Like GRMC, rural hospitals across the country are exploring whether to remain independent or look for a like-minded partner.
