Subject: Death of Inmate Ashley Garcia

On July 15, 2018, at approximately 06:43 a.m., inmate Ashley Garcia was found unresponsive by Grant County Detention staff. EMS was contacted at that time. Medical staff responded to Ms. Garcia at approximately 6:45 a.m. EMS arrived at the Detention Center within approximately ten minutes of the discovery of Ms. Garcia. EMS indicated Ms. Garcia was deceased. There are no further details regarding her death at this time.

Ms. Garcia was booked into the Grant County Detention Center at approximately 4:05 p.m. on July 14, 2018 after being arrested for Abuse of a Child, Aggravated Driving while under the influence, Resisting, Evading, or Obstructing a Peace Officer and Revoked Driver’s License. Ms. Garcia resided in Silver City, New Mexico and was thirty-four years of age.

At this time, there are no obvious signs of foul play or policy violations. Grant County sends its deepest condolences to the friends and family of Ms. Garcia.
