District 3 Councilor Jose Ray Jr., who announced his resignation from the council at its Aug. 14. 2018 meeting, told the beat today, Monday, Aug, 20, that he has retracted his resignation.

Ray’s resignation came on the heels of his sponsored ordinance to allow side-by-side recreational off-highway vehicles on city streets being defeated by a 3-2 vote, with Mayor Ken Ladner casting the tie-breaker.

Ray said after careful consideration and conversations with others, he has decided “that fulfilling my obligation to the people who elected me by completing my term is the right thing to do.”

Ray was originally appointed to the council for one year by then mayor James Marshall to fill the seat of Kyle Holtum, who resigned from the position in 2011 immediately after being sworn in. Ray then was elected in 2012 for the second year of that 2011 term and has been re-elected for consecutive two-year terms since, in 2013, 2015, and 2017.
