On September 9, 2018 at approximately 1:08 a.m., inmate Fernando Rodriguez was found unconscious by Grant County Detention Center staff. It appeared that Mr. Rodriguez had attempted to hang himself. Medical staff performed CPR on Mr. Rodriguez and staff called for EMS. EMS arrived at the Detention Center within ten minutes of the incident. CPR ceased at 1:50 a.m. and Office of the Medical Investigator was advised.

Mr. Rodriguez was booked into the Grant County Detention Center on September 8, 2018 at 8:39 p.m., after being arrested for aggravated battery against a household member with a deadly weapon. Mr. Rodriguez resided in Silver City, New Mexico and was 41 years of age. Mr. Rodriguez exhibited no signs of being suicidal prior to the incident.

At this time, there are no obvious signs of foul play. Grant County sends its deepest condolences to the friends and family of Mr. Rodriguez.
