Silver City Named One of the Best Places to Retire in New Mexico

Silver City, NM – October 17, 2018 – Silver City, New Mexico—known for its outdoor recreation, arts and culture, and history—was recently named one of the best places to retire in the state of New Mexico by SmartAssets. According to SmartAssets, Silver City earned its ranking due to the availability of medical centers, as well as the vast opportunities for recreation and arts and culture.

“It’s an honor to have made such a list, as we pride ourselves on offering unique experiences to people of all ages,” said Alex Brown, Town of Silver City Manager. “Silver City is an affordable and exciting place to retire. Whether you’re interested in outdoor recreation, history, or arts and culture, there’s something for everyone in Silver City. As an added bonus, our community of 10,000 is welcoming and we have special events nearly every week.”

The historic downtown district is an art mecca – with live music and theater venues, over 30 art galleries and more than 50 murals. Additionally, paying homage to the town’s Old West Heritage, people can explore the historic areas with ties to Billy the Kid, Geronimo, and the third largest open pit copper mine in the world.

Silver City is a hub of outdoor adventure and wilderness exploration. People can explore the 3.3 million acre Gila National Forest, the Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument, and the Trail of the Mountain Spirits, among other state parks and recreation areas in the nearby vicinity.

“In addition to providing a wide range of options for retirees, Silver City is a unique town, with a strong community feel and a temperate climate,” added Brown. “With temperate weather through all four seasons, low humidity, and mountain air, it’s a beautiful place to enjoy the most relaxing years of your life. For those who are considering a move to New Mexico for their retirement, we welcome you to come explore Silver City and discover your next hometown.”
