Deputies arrest man for aggravated battery

According to a Grant County Sheriff’s Department news release, on Wednesday, Jan. 23., at approximately 10:55 a.m., deputies were dispatched to a residence on Fairway Drive regarding a domestic violence incident in progress. When deputies arrived, an adult female reported her boyfriend had struck and attempted to strangle her and threatened her with a large knife. The suspect, later identified as Josh Robles, 28, of Santa Clara, had fled prior to the arrival of deputies.

At approximately 11:12 a.m., deputies were dispatched to the 400 block of Bobwhite Drive (close to the Fairway Drive address) for a breaking and entering in progress. The responding deputy observed a male subject matching the description of Robles exiting a residence. The deputy told him to “Stop right there,” but Robles re-entered the residence, the release stated.

According to the release, the deputy ran around the residence to another door where Robles was just exiting. With the assistance of a second deputy who had just arrived, Robles was detained.

Robles was carrying a large backpack with stolen items from the residence, the release said, was wearing a large sheathed knife, and was in possession of drug paraphernalia. While handcuffed and being escorted to a patrol vehicle, Robles attempted to trip the deputy or interfere with being escorted and was safely placed on the ground.

The release stated that Robles has a significant criminal history in California and New Mexico and is a convicted felon on formal probation. Robles was arrested on scene and charged with battery against a household member, a 3rd degree felony; aggravated battery against a household member, a 3rd degree felony; criminal damage to property of a household member, a misdemeanor; criminal damage to property, a 4th degree felony; and probation violation (pending adult probation filing).

Robles was booked into the Grant County Detention Center. He remains in custody (as of Jan. 28) without bond pending adult probation violation proceedings and court action on the new criminal charges. The GCSD worked closely on this case with Adult Probation & Parole and the Sixth Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
