At approximately 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Mar. 16, 2019, a Bayard police officer was dispatched to the 700 block of North Street in response to a female caller screaming and providing little information to the Grant County Regional Dispatch Authority dispatcher. According to a Bayard Police Department narrative report, when the officer arrived at the address, screaming could be heard from the 900 block and a named male ran from that residence holding a child. The male said he was getting his niece out of the house because his cousin was bleeding.

BPD officers had additional contact with a named male in front of the house who was holding a towel to his abdomen. Witnesses stated, according to the report, that the victim and his brother, Andy Ordonez, had been arguing all day, and when the victim got up to go to the bathroom, Andy Ordonez stabbed his brother with what was described as a six-inch long knife. Witnesses stated that following the stabbing, Andy Ordonez ran out of the house in an unknown direction.

Officers observed a small pool of blood in the center of the house, the report said, along with blood spatter in front of the bathroom.

The report stated the victim was transported to Gila Regional Medical Center. Officers interviewed the victim at GRMC, who advised he did not want to pursue charges against his brother. The victim’s probation officer was notified by BPD that the victim was going to be flown out-of-state to a trauma center in El Paso.

The narrative report said charges will be filed on Andy Ordonez, 26, of Bayard, for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. According to Grant County Detention Center staff, he is not yet in custody.
