Hurley Town Council Meeting July 9, 2019

The council approved eight resolutions ending the 2019 Fiscal Year and opening the 2020 Fiscal Year for town business. Also, on the agenda under public input, Frances Gonzales presented a quick update in the status of the potential military flyovers environmental impact statement. The military says it will release the statement this fall or late in the fall. Gonzales will keep the Council updated on the progress.

Another resident spoke about early morning gunshots that he can hear from his home. He has reported it to the police department, but it is still happening. This resident also received a letter about the five cars on his property and will be getting rid of two but would like to work with the town on how he can keep the rest at home until they can be fixed up now that he has time to restore them. All of them run at this time.

Department reports followed:

Maintenance: Clean up around town and cemetery ongoing. Personnel are getting their water certification finished up. Installation of new water meters is nearly complete. They have finished planting trees at the cemetery. The pool is up and running with no issues.

Town Clerk: Finishing up final budget and closing out FY 2019 business in preparation for the annual audit.
Fire Department: Chief not present but the department responded to five fires in the past month.

Animal Control: Busy June. All dogs adopted out. Have a few cats remaining and looking for homes. Tractor Supply donated dog and cat food. Animal Control will send a thank you letter to them soon. There were three animal complaints, and the department issued nine citations.
Code Enforcement: sent out 38 letters about yards and junk cars last month.

Police Department: the Chief reported citations brought in roughly $6,500 and five arrests were made during June.
The council then heard from Stantec Consulting on water project updates. The town is down to one last project on the books, the new wells and pipe installation. The water tanks have been delayed but new specs are out and the project managers are looking for a new water tank source so they can get an order in.

In Mayor Ed Stephen's report, he said the 4th of July was relatively quiet. The pool is being used and business is good. A building ordinance workshop will take place at 5 p.m., July 16 at City Hall.

Councilor Esther Gil reported a phone call from a citizen complimenting city maintenance crews on their work around town and the good job that fire department personnel are doing.

Next Meeting August 13 at 5:00 p.m.
