Cobre Junior Wrestling Program request for use of school facilities was tabled again. Mr. Mendoza, School Superintendent, suggested the coach for the program get in touch with Cobre Athletic Director Nelson Diaz to set up a plan for the “use of facilities.” Many other programs, including a touch football group and the Junior Wrestling team all would like to use the new football field. One issue is that people bring their pets to the field and don’t always clean up. George Peru, Assistant Superintendent, said that the signage up now is ignored. They are looking at new signage that is more noticeable. Snell Middle School field is available, if they fill out a “usage form.”.

Six bills up for financial review were approved. Council member Gilbert Guadiana abstained from the vote. In the Supervisors' report, the board had received several requests for approval of fundraisers. The Cobre Vollyball team was one, but with several separate requests. Mr. Sepulveda thought they could be consolidated. Homecoming is Sept. 30 thru Oct. 4, 2019. The parade is set for 2 p.m. on October 4. The Cobre/Morenci game has been moved from Friday night to Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. The change is due to lack of officials, Mendoza said.

The bids for the new football field bathrooms are in. Until the contract is awarded officially, all that can be reported is that the lowest bid was accepted. Construction should start soon.

Cobre is hosting the New Mexico School Boards Association’s Region 8 meeting Sept. 24 at Central Elementary School. There was no Student Representative report. A Central Elementary School student, David Palomarez, is the winner of this year’s “D.A.R.E. Essay“ State contest.

Next meeting is Oct 14, 2019 5 p.m. at Central Elementary School.
