At about 11:54 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2019, a call came into Grant County Regional Dispatch Authority in reference to an armed robbery at Silver City Jewelers, 401 N. Bullard Street. The victim told officers, according to Silver City Police Chief Freddie Portillo, that a lone male wearing a gray hoodie entered the store and pointed a handgun at her and told her to unlock all the safes. He then took jewelry from cabinets and cash from the register, Portillo said, and after pepper spraying the victim, fled on foot. Value of the stolen items was unknown at this time. The victim was not seriously injured.

Portillo said they have alerted the usual establishments where the stolen merchandise might be redeemed for cash.
