    The hearse that carried famed sheriff Pat Garrett to his burial is now in a new home.  It left the Hearst Church in Pinos Altos on Saturday on a trailer operated by the Dona Ana County sheriff's office.  The hearse will be the featured attraction of the new sheriff's museum in Las Cruces.  
    The hearse had been displayed at the Hearst Church in Pinos Altos for many years.  The church is now used in the summer as a gallery for the Grant County Artists Guild.
    Dink Tatsch of Silver City, sold the hearse to historian Cal Traylor of Las Cruces, who donated the historic vehicle to the sheriff's museum.
    A crew of about eight persons gently lowered the hearse down the steps of the Hearst Church and on to a flatbed trailer where it was carefully tied down and wrapped.  The massive doors of the church had to be removed to allow the hearse to pass through.  The entire operation took about two hours.
