All eyes will be looking upward as the U.S. Flag flown over the U.S. Capitol is raised at 9 a.m. on Friday, September 21 the first day of Fort Bayard Days. The Allingham-Golding Post 18 of the American Legion will conduct the flag ceremony. At the request of Senator Jeff Bingaman, this flag was flown  over the capitol on August 21 to commemmorate the establishment of Fort Bayard on August 21, 1866.   Fort Bayard was the last fort in New Mexico to be  created by the U.S. Army.

The Pledge of Allegiance will be led by one of the 400 students from Cobre, Deming and Silver schools.


Patriotic songs will be accompanied by Charles Coon. He will be leading a Learning Station on the use of the bugle by the U.S. Army Cavalry. There will be  30 Learning Stations for students and
the public to experience.
