Mimbres, NM; November 9, 2012
Update:  Since the local area is currently receiving precipitation, the Wilderness Ranger District of the Gila National Forest anticipates starting to burn slash piles located on the District after Veterans Day. Objective of the prescribed fire is to remove piles created by fuels reduction projects in the Wildland Urban Interface.

The first area to be treated will be along Powderhorn Road; anticipated start date for that area is Tuesday, November 13, 2012,  pending weather conditions and personnel availability.

Project Locations:
•        Wilderness District Administrative Site off N.M. Hwy 35.
•        Adjacent to Powderhorn Road (Forest Road 151).
•       Along the Mimbres River, near Forest Roads 150A (Cooney Road) and 4080T.

•        Downstream of the Cooney Subdivision.

Smoke will be visible in the burn areas and from North Star Road (Forest  Road 150), McKnight Road (Forest Road 152), and N.M. Hwy 35.  Smoke may linger at night and early in the morning but  normally decreases as temperatures warm up through the day.
