In celebration of America Recycles Day, November 15, 2012, the Southwest Chapter of the New Mexico Green Chamber of Commerce – in partnership with the New Mexico Recycling Coalition, Partnership for Responsible Business and Silver City MainStreet Project – recognized five Silver City businesses for their major contributions to the community through their recycling efforts.

Cissy McAndrew, Executive Director of the Green Chamber, awarded the Small Business Recycler of the Year designation to Mitch Hellman of Alotta Gelato.  The four other Top Business Recyclers receiving awards were:

  • Chelsea Bush of the Habitat for Humanity Gila Region ReStore
  • Sarah Jane Gendron of Energy Ideal
  • Chelsea Hotchkiss of Insurance First
  • Jason Marsh of TreRosatCafé

McAndrew noted that Silver City is ahead of many communities in that a high percentage of its businesses are already conscientious recyclers.  She also highlighted the fact that the Green Chamber acts as a network through which businesses connect to create synergy in recycling efforts, buying locally, creating green jobs, and promoting entrepreneurship in Silver City and throughout Grant County and beyond.
