GLENWOOD, N.M. — As summer thunderstorms wind down, the Glenwood Ranger District will open the Catwalk Recreation Trail from dawn to dusk effective immediately.

"We are experiencing pleasantly cool late summer afternoons now and want the public to be able to stay and enjoy the picnic area and historic trail as we transition into fall," says District Ranger Debbie Cress.

District personnel will continue to monitor the potential for storms through National Weather Service outlooks. Temporary closures may be necessary throughout upcoming months if significant rainfall is predicted.

The public can expect to see district employees working to repair damage in the picnic area where water flowed outside the stream channel during summer thunderstorms and may occasionally encounter equipment clearing gravel and rocks from crossings on N.M. Highway 174.

Closures remain in effect for the universally accessible trail and for Whitewater Creek from the CCC steps to the junction of Gold Dust Trail #41.
