Silver City's men's cold-weather shelter, operated by the Silver City Gospel Mission, is scheduled to open November 1, 2014, and they can still use a few volunteers to act as greeters to get the men set up between 5:30 and 7:30 pm each night when overnight hosts arrive.

Dinner will once again be served, and a few folks have donated money specifically for this cold-weather shelter. Gospel Mission thanks the donors immensely for these funds.

While not a permanent solution, the shelter should be able to keep up to 15 homeless men warm and dry this year.

Many solutions to homelessness are being proposed and tried by various groups and organizations. Everything from the ever-present homeless shelter, to small, easily built home-boxes similar to storage units to rapid re-housing, economic diversity and long-term prevention, detainment and community improvement plans. We don't know what the solution is, but we do have to protect the homeless in our own community from our sometimes harsh winter weather.
