Silver City/Western New Mexico University (Watts Hall)

(SILVER CITY, NM)— Military veterans, Guard/Reserve and active-duty personnel interested in starting their own business or expanding an existing operation are invited to attend a free business development breakfast workshop in Silver City on November 19 from 7:30am-9am at Western New Mexico University/Watts Hall, located at 500 18th Street.

A free hot breakfast will also be served to all attendees.

The workshop is part of the ongoing VBOC On The Road series of business development workshops for veterans presented by the New Mexico Department of Veterans' Services, the New Mexico Veterans' Business Outreach Center (VBOC), the U.S. Small Business Administration, the New Mexico Small Business Development Center (SBDC), the SBDC Procurement Technical Assistance Program (PTAP) and Wells Fargo Bank. The Silver City/Grant County Chamber of Commerce is also a partner for the workshop.

New Mexico VBOC Director Joseph Long and representatives from the partnering agencies will present information on how the agencies can help veterans succeed with starting and expanding their own business.

Among the topics to be covered are: How to determine if a business idea is feasible, available financial assistance for veterans, special business incentives for New Mexico veterans, how to create a Business Plan, how to pursue government contracting possibilities, veteran-friendly franchise opportunities, and other ways the VBOC and the presenting partners can help a veteran business owner.

"For many people, running your own business and being your own boss is part of the American Dream," said VBOC Director Long. "For veterans, it's a great way to utilize the training and skills learned in the military. But you shouldn't just jump in and start without knowing how to go about it. We will show veterans how to successfully start and grow a business at this workshop."

Veterans can take advantage of private "walk-in" counseling sessions immediately after the presentation for more personal assistance.

Walk-ins are welcome, but pre-registration is strongly recommended by contacting the SBDC at (575) 538-6342 or E-mailing linda.mcarthur@wnmu.edu.

New Mexico Veterans' Business Outreach Center
The New Mexico Veterans' Business Outreach Center (VBOC) was created by the New Mexico Department of Veterans' Services to help veteran-owned businesses. It was the first such state-funded center in the nation created specifically to help veterans.

The VBOC is administered by the Small Business Administration and managed by the New Mexico Department of Veterans' Services. It was established through a federal grant to assist military veterans with their business development needs. New Mexico's VBOC is located in Albuquerque but provides service to any veteran statewide. It is one of only fifteen VBOC offices in the country.
