Guadalupe Montessori School (GMS) will present the Festival of Trees and Holiday Pop-Up Store November 28-December 6, 2014 at 614 North Bullard Street, in an event space generously donated by the Silver City Food Coop.

"It's all about the trees!" comments GMS Board President Mattie Eagle, and indeed, the highlight of the Festival is the beautiful selection of live decorated and undecorated Colorado Spruce, Austrian Pine and Ponderosa Pine trees for sale. Local businesses, families and individuals who purchase the decorated trees will have their names on a sign printed by Silver City's Power and Light Press, and trees will be delivered to their place of business after the Festival. Decorated trees are creatively adorned by local individuals, families, and organizations, and will be on view all week. In addition to decorated and undecorated live trees, rosemary trees, poinsettias, and handmade swags will be available at the Festival.

The GMS Holiday Pop-Up Store accompanying the Festival will offer gifts, including toys, crafts, herbal products from the GMS garden, and much more!

The Festival of Trees and Holiday Pop-Up Store will open on Buy Local Day, the alternative to Black Friday, on Friday, November 28, 2014. The next day is the Lighted Christmas Parade downtown, and the Festival will be running through the evening hours, concurrent with the parade. The final Saturday of the Festival is on Sugar Plum Saturday, a downtown celebration coordinated by local businesses, and will feature a Gingerbread Extravaganza at the Festival of Trees – a friendly gingerbread house competition, and a hands-on project for kids of all ages. GMS is accepting gingerbread creations for the contest in both professional and amateur categories. Email events@guadalupemontessori.org for more information or to sign up for this fun event!

The Festival of Trees has a long history in Silver City—it was previously put on by the local Mormon church and by Penny Park, and was revived by GMS last year as family-friendly holiday event and fundraiser.

Guadalupe Montessori School has served the community for over thirty years with high quality Montessori early childhood and elementary education. Through this event, GMS will raise funds to support the school's programming. GMS is currently accepting applications for the 2015-16 school year, and will be running a Summer Enrichment Program in 2015 for children aged 18 months through 12 years old. GMS encourages interested families to contact the school about its programs. For more information visit www.guadalupemontessori.org.
