The first day of the Silver City Radio – Silver City Daily Press Mainstreet Santa Treasure Hunt begins in downtown Silver City on Monday, December 1. Somewhere in downtown Silver City, a treasure card has been hidden. On the card is a picture of Santa Claus, a phone number and a code. If you find it, you win $500 worth of Mainstreet Bucks to be spent with businesses in downtown Silver City.

Beginning Monday, December 1, the daily clue can be heard on Q92.9 FM, KNFT 102.9 FM, or KNFT 950 AM. It will also be printed on the front page of Silver City Daily Press each day. You have to listen to the radio or read the paper to find out the new clue each day. It's not simple. But if you think about the clues and how they pertain to Silver City, you can find the treasure and have $500 worth of Mainstreet Dollars to spend for Christmas presents.

Scott Terry, President of the Silver City Grant County Chamber of Commerce stated, "We have the Tamal Fiesta, the Lighted Christmas Parade, the Festival of Trees and now the Silver City Radio – Silver City Daily Press MainStreet Santa Treasure Hunt as exciting events to start the Christmas Season. Silver City should definitely be buzzing with holiday excitement for the next couple of weeks." Several months ago, a group of individuals from throughout the community formed what is called the Downtown Christmas Committee. This group has been planning and helping coordinate a variety of events to bring people into Silver City for the holidays. "It's amazing the amount of people, the number of organizations, and the countless hours involved in bringing so many wonderful events to our Victorian Christmas in Silver City," added Julianna Albershardt, the committee's chairperson.

Besides Silver City Radio, Silver City Daily Press and the Silver City MainStreet Project, other businesses that donated to the success of the Treasure Hunt include Gallery 400 & Gila House, Humphrey's Enterprises, Gila Hike & Bike, Morones and Knuttinen LLC, The Marketplace/Variety Store, The Rock Center, The Jewelry Lady, Little Toad Creek Brewery and Distillery, and Custom Steelworks. The idea for Santa's Treasure Hunt came to the committee by way of the Silver City Grant County Chamber of Commerce.

"Shopping in Silver City is a great way to help local businesses and bolster our local economy. If you find Santa's Treasure, it's really fun because you get to spend $500 worth of MainStreet dollars to have a great Christmas," added Scott Terry. It's important to note, the clues will be available each day only on the radio and in the newspaper beginning Monday, December 1.
