The next community hike facilitated by the Grant County Trails Group and the Fitness and Nutrition in Community Group is scheduled for Sunday, February 8, 1:00p.m to 3:30p.m., on the Big Tree Trail near Fort Bayard. The community is encouraged to meet at the Fort Bayard Administrative Site Trailhead parking lot. The hike to the big juniper tree is approximately four miles round trip. The trail varies in difficulty between minimal incline to occasional high incline. Public restrooms are available.

Directions: Follow U.S. Highway 180 to Santa Clara and turn north onto the Fort Bayard Medical Center access road. Pass the hospital complex by taking the right fork till you get to the sign with Forest Road 536. This will take you to the Fort Bayard Administrative Site Trailhead and parking is 1/10 mile west of the junction of Forest Roads 536 and 929.

Please be prepared with sturdy hiking shoes, long sleeve shirts, pants, sunglasses, sunscreen and water. Children under the age of eighteen must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. (For more information please contact Michele Giese at 538-8573 (121).
