1) Align & Refine with Melissa Woods moves to Tuesday evenings, from 5:30 to 6:45. This is a class for those who have practiced yoga before or have a definite sense of adventure and play in relationship to their physical bodies. The focus is on alignment within the pose but also as the thoughts relate to asana and breath. Subtle focus on continued refinement of how we approach practice, breath by breath, as the sequence changes from class to class. Opportunity to practice arm balances, inversions and explore fundamental poses deeper.

Align & Refine begins on February 24.

2) We are delighted to welcome Natalie Carrell, who will be teaching Beginners Sivananda Yoga, also on Tuesday evenings, from 7:00 to 8:15. Natalie is a registered yoga teacher in the Sivananda school of yoga. She was attracted to Sivananda yoga for its medical foundation (the guru, Swami Sivananda Saraswati, was a medical doctor), consistent and structured asana and pranayama components, and strong attention to yoga's traditional roots.

3) Melissa Woods will also be teaching Yin Yoga on Thursday afternoons, from 4:00 to 5:15. Yin yoga requires longer, more passive holding of specific yoga poses. All the poses are done on the ground using props to support students allowing deep release and relaxation. Poses are held for 3-5 minutes with focus on the breath to assist in deepening the stretches over time. Yin targets the connective tissue around joints, while a more traditional yoga practice, yang, addresses the muscle system; yin and yang practices compliment each other and neither is intended to be an independent system rather encourages further grace and ability through symbiosis. This class can also be adjusted to offer a restorative practice as well.

Yin Yoga begins on February 26.
