Las Cruces: The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) District One office will begin their chip seal maintenance operation on various roadways in Grant and Luna County.

The NMDOT chip seal crew will begin work on Monday, April 20 along NM 35 in Grant County before mobilizing over to Luna County. The following routes have been identified for Luna County, which are; FR 1014, FR 1017, FR 1016, NM 9, NM11, NM 418, FR 1019, FR 1020, NM 377, NM 143, NM 198, NM 549, FR 1024 and FR 1026.

Motorists will encounter flagging operations and intermittent lane closures during working operations Monday to Friday from 7:00 am until 4:30 pm. The public is encouraged to reduce speed and to proceed with extreme caution as loose material may be found along the roadside.

The chip seal process is placed on the existing pavement that is designed to minimize moisture penetrating through the existing surface, and creates a more adhesive roadway that will extend the longevity of these routes.

Roadway notifications will be posted on the department's web page www.nmroads.com which can also be retrieved by calling 511.
