Silver City, NM - The Chair of the Grant County Democratic Party, Frances Vasquez, today announced that Grant Democrats had unanimously adopted a resolution supporting the expansion of the Grant County Commission from three to five commissioners. The Commission is holding a series of public meetings to allow public input on the proposed expansion, including during their Thursday, May 14 meeting starting at 9:00 am at the county administration building.

"The issue has been discussed during several GC Democratic Party meetings," said Ms. Vasquez. "There is general agreement that expanding the Commission will be a good thing for all Grant County residents. We urge everyone to attend the Commission's hearings on this issue and voice your support."

"Democrats believe that adding two commissioners will provide more avenues for citizens to interact with the Commission, better representation of county areas, and more opportunity for airing diverse views," stated GCDP vice chair Shelby Hallmark. "Having five districts and five commissioners should make our county government more open and more responsive. It's a good government initiative, and we commend the current Commission for bringing it to the public for consideration."
