Imagination Library Hires Program Coordinator

Jump babyIn addition to the recent announcement that the Imagination Library of Grant County sent its 50,000th book to a child in Grant County, Loren and Barbara Nelson, local program champions, are now pleased to announce that the nonprofit organization has hired a new Program Coordinator. Nancy Stephens started June 8th and will manage administration of the Imagination Library, promote the Imagination Library within the county and oversee program staff/volunteers.

The Imagination Library mails over 1,300 free, age-appropriate books each month to Grant County preschool children, thereby providing experiences with language and reading and establishing the basis for future learning success. A Silver City resident for the past eight years, Stephens holds a Master's degree in Social Work and shares the vision of the Imagination Library. Her own children have been recipients of the books. Having a passion for early childhood literacy, she was drawn to the position after reading about Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. Stephens stated, "Although childhood literacy is different from social work, both place value on children's learning, social justice and well-being, and both can facilitate positive change. Almost nothing is more powerful than reading, especially when it's associated with the love of a parent."

The Imagination Library of Grant County office is located at 1915 N Swan Street. Look for the sign and the entrance on the north side of the building. Office hours remain Monday through Thursday 10:00-2:00. Stephens invites you to stop by, visit, and learn what The Imagination Library is all about.
