BookSigningThe Silver City Museum will host a book signing with author Carlos Melendrez and his book America!, which chronicles the efforts to repatriate Geronimo's remains to New Mexico. The book signing will take place in the Silver City Museum Annex at 302 W Broadway in downtown Silver City on Saturday, July 25 from 2 pm to 3pm.

The book, America! Don't You Know Me? I'm Your Native Son Geronimo, contains information revealed during a lawsuit that sought to repatriate Geronimo to his homeland, "at the headwaters of the Gila". Learn about the powerful forces that have aligned in opposition to Geronimo's desire to be buried in his beloved mountains. The book was awarded 2nd place in the Political/Current Affairs category in this year's International Latino Book Awards.

Carlos Melendrez is a great, great grandson of Pablo Melendres, who was among the first settlers of the Village of Dona Ana and became its first Alcalde and Juez Proprietario, in charge of allocating land grants under the Dona Ana Bend Colony Grant. Carlos served in the Army Security Agency, an intelligence gathering unit. He became district manager of the 7 northwestern states while working for American Hoist and Derrick. Mr. Melendrez left the corporate world and became a political activist on human rights issues, continuing to the present day.
