The women of the Silver City American Legion Auxiliary will be distributing poppies in memory of our fallen heroes at the First American Bank and the First New Mexico Bank from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Tuesday, November 10. They will also host bake sales at those locations to raise funds for projects that benefit Veterans. We owe a deep debt of gratitude to our military service members, past and present. This year the American Legion Auxiliary marks 95 years of service to veterans and their families. They promote the poppy as a symbol of the sacrifices our veterans have made.

"From the battlefields of World War I, weary soldiers brought home the memory of a barren landscape transformed by wild poppies, red as the blood that had soaked the soil. By that miracle of nature, the spirit of their lost comrades lived on. The poppy became a symbol of the sacrifice of lives in war and represented the hope that none had died in vain" (https://www.alaforveterans.org/Poppy/).
