One-on-One Workshop with Literary Agent Peter Riva

"Publishing Advice for Authors"

Saturday, December 5th, 2015, 9:30-5pm
Location: TBA in Silver City

100% for the benefit of Grant County Community Foundation.

This unusual and exciting workshop will help take you to the next level in your writing. The day operates on three levels. For the basic price, all participants will get Peter's well-experienced take on the industry today and then listen in on his comments and critiques for those participating in Level 2 or 3 discussions:

Level 2: For the additional fee, participants will submit 20 pages of their manuscript and other information two weeks in advance. Peter will give you a twenty-minute feedback session on your manuscript and supporting documents. Limited to 10 participants.

or

Level 3: For an additional fee, writers can submit a two page summary of their book and a query letter two weeks in advance. Peter will give a ten -minute review session of your material. Limited to 15 participants

Fees: $40 basic registration

Plus $75 for level 2 or $40 for level 3. All fees are contributed to the Grant County Community Foundation.

After receipt of payment by SWFWW, email your original submission details as per EXACT instructions below (or on the downloaded Registration Form) to Peter Riva at jpr@intltrans.com and send a copy by mail to SWFWW. All submissions must be received two weeks prior to the workshop

Here are the materials authors need to submit 2 weeks ahead of time:

Level 2 participants: A document that includes all of the following information (a checklist):

Section 1:

Name and date

  1. mailing address and email address
  2. working title of manuscript
  3. overview/summary (1-2 pages)
  4. Manuscript status (complete, initial stages, finished but requiring fact checking, copy editing, etc.)
  5. estimated word count when complete
  6. chapter titles and brief summary of each chapter
  7. Your intended target audience and why they might find this book compelling.
  8. books that would be considered competitors of your book and how your book differs from these - explain the value of your book over the competition
  9. short bio of yourself, including reputation, credentials and recognition (e.g. awards) that qualify you to write about this topic
  10. links to previous publication(s)
  11. a description of ways that you will help to promote your book, including any media contacts you may have
  12. Your network to other authors and/or advance blurbs.

Section 2. Your manuscript (a checklist)

  1. the 1st 20 pages, double-spaced, MS Word doc, or Mac rtf format
  2. your name and page number on each page (as header or footer)
  3. copyright & date on each page (as header or footer)
  4. margins: top=1", bottom=1", left/right = 1.2".

Level 3 : A document that includes all of the following information (a checklist):

  1. Name and date,
  2. mailing address and email
  3. working title of manuscript,
  4. overview/summary (2-3 pages),
  5. Manuscript status (complete, initial stages, finished but requiring fact checking, copy editing, etc.),
  6. estimated word count when complete,
  7. your intended target audience and why they might find this book compelling,
  8. books that would be considered competitors of your book and how your book differs from these - explain the value of your book over the competition,
  9. short bio of yourself, including reputation, credentials and recognition (e.g. awards) that qualify you to write about this topic,
