Recently, our company has gotten quite a few calls relating to a Malware that appears to attack Windows 10 users. It is in the form of a pop up message when you use your browser or may come through your instant message. It generally warns of some cataclysmic event on your computer or the internet, you must call Microsoft Technical Support at some phone number. The phone number is not a Microsoft number and this has nothing to do with Microsoft. If you call and let them have your phone number or access to your machine, they will eventually ask for $295 to fix some non-existing problem. Do not be tricked into this. Call your help desk, or computer-savvy friends for help. For additional resources, the Silver City Chamber of Commerce (Silvercity.org) has a list of technology companies that can help. For those who are interested, I will write more about this and other Malware in my regular monthly Desert Exposure column, coming out May 1.
