Now that the summer reading program has ended, free technology training opportunities will resume at the Silver City Public Library. There will be an open lab for practice, questions, and troubleshooting on Friday, August 12, 2:00-4:00pm. Participants can use library-provided laptops and tablets to practice their skills and become familiar with different devices. Knowledgeable library staff and volunteers will be available to answer questions. Participants can also bring their own laptops or mobile devices for troubleshooting help.

The library will also hold a workshop on borrowing e-books and downloadable audiobooks on Thursday, August 25, 10:00am-12:00pm. A librarian will demonstrate how to access New Mexico Library To-Go at nm.lib.overdrive.com and how to download the Overdrive app to a device for easier access. Then participants will learn how to search and browse for items, place items on hold, borrow, and download e-books/audiobooks. "This is a service we were excited to add in March 2014. Although usage has been growing steadily, I suspect it is still unknown to many in the community," said Lillian Galloway, programming and outreach librarian. "I look forward to getting more people started with e-books and downloadable audiobooks!"

More technology workshops for the fall will be announced soon. "The library is maintaining partnerships with other organizations such as Adult Education Services at Western New Mexico University and Literacy Link-Leamos to offer as many learning opportunities as possible," explained Galloway. "Helping more people gain access to technology is an important way to contribute to economic development, education, and community engagement in Grant County."

The Silver City Public Library is located at 515 W. College Avenue in Silver City, on the corner of College and Cooper Street. For more information about technology training and other library services, contact Lillian Galloway at 575-538-3672 or ref@silvercitymail.com.
