Silver City, New Mexico - Audubon New Mexico has elected Sara Boyett to be a member of its Board of Directors. Boyett is a resident of Silver City and current president of the local chapter, Southwestern New Mexico Audubon.

Audubon New Mexico is a statewide organization representing over 6500 New Mexicans. It also coordinates with the four nationally recognized chapters of the National Audubon Society. The members of the Board of Directors are ambassadors for Audubon's work in New Mexico, bringing relevant expertise and ideas to support its mission.

Boyett has been a resident of Silver City since 2011 and a member of Southwestern New Mexico Audubon during that time. She has taken a varied and interesting path to Silver City, having worked or studied from Chile to Alaska and many points in between. Sara has roots in Montana but New Mexico has also played a significant part in her life since the late 60s when she served as a VISTA Volunteer in San Jon and Tijeras. She is an environmental activist, historian, writer and antiques dealer. And since moving to Silver City, she has become a passionate proponent for protection of the Gila River.

Audubon is the premier organization working to protect birds and their habitat nationwide. "Where birds thrive, people prosper," describes the core of Audubon' mission.

Audubon is well known for conducting the annual Christmas Bird Count, a citizen science project that has taken place for the past 110 years. Over 70,000 people are expected to take part in this year's count at locations from the southern tip of South America to the Arctic Circle. Anyone can participate, regardless of birding skill level.
