The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd will present a series of films during Lent to be shown at the Church Parish Hall at 615 N Texas St. Films will be shown on Tuesday evenings at 6:30 and followed by a short, optional discussion.

Each of these films feature men who have offered themselves up to save others, as Christians everywhere believe Jesus did. They each came out of a kind of wilderness of darkness. Racism, violence, war, addiction, childhood wounds from bullying provide the background for their inspirational heroism.

The schedule of films is:

March 14
OF GODS AND ME (2010), French biopic of 9 Trappist monks living peaceably amongst Muslim villagers in Algeria until they were caught up in the civil war there in the 1990's

March 21
BE HOME SOON (2012), Poignant memoir from the granddaughter of New Mexico's own Fr. Ted Howden who died of starvation after giving his rations to fellow soldiers during the Bataan Death March

March 28
AS IT IS IN HEAVEN (2004), Swedish film about singing, recovery, redemption and friendship in a small rural town

April 4
THE LAST TEMPTATION OF CHRIST (1988), Martin Scorcese's acclaimed and controversial depiction of the Passion emphasizing the humanness of Jesus and hence, the greater bravery of the crucifixion

The Parish Hall is most easily entered from the parking lot at the corner of 6th and Arizona.

There is no charge for these films, and all are welcome.
