SC Public Library Logo 448pxSilver City Public Library's new logoNational Library Week, a time to celebrate libraries of all types, will be held April 9-15 this year. The American Library Association has sponsored this annual national observance since 1958. The 2017 State of America's Libraries report will be released on Monday, April 10. The Silver City Public Library invites community members to celebrate by visiting the library online, or in person Monday, April 10 through Thursday, April 13, 9:00am-6:00pm. People can share what they love about libraries by leaving comments on a wall in the library building or on the library's Facebook page at facebook.com/SilverCityPublicLibrary. National Library Week social media campaign images and profile pics can be found at the celebration page www.ilovelibraries.org/national-library-week.

"This annual initiative raises awareness of how libraries transform communities, and how libraries are transforming themselves to serve communities every day," explained Lillian Galloway, programming and outreach librarian. "The Silver City Public Library has gone through a strategic planning process to determine our new goals and roles in the community. As part of this, we have developed a new mission statement, vision, and logo." The new Silver City Public Library mission is to "provide access to information and ideas; foster literacy, life-long learning, and creativity; connect people to each other and the wider world; and strengthen our communities." The new vision is for the library to be "a gateway to the knowledge and information needed to sustain a healthy, thriving community."

Along with their new logo, the library is launching a new website at a new address during National Library Week. The new site can be found at silvercitypubliclibrary.org. "This site will serve as an intuitive portal to find information about library services and activities, and to access the library's online resources," Galloway stated.
