Silver City, NM - After the 60-day legislative session in Santa Fe, Representative Rodolpho "Rudy" Martinez (D-39) and Senator Howie Morales (D-28) will be hosting a legislative Town Hall on Thursday, April 20 from 6:00-7:30 at the Brown Derby in Santa Clara. After a tumultuous 60-day session, legislators are looking at the possibility of returning for a special session to work on the budget recently vetoed by the Governor. Rep. Martinez says he wants all constituents to know his stance on issues, but more importantly, wants to hear from them.

"It's great to be home after a challenging 60-day session in Santa Fe. Senator Morales and I believe the legislature accomplished some of its goals and fell short on others, and I look forward to discussing these things with everyone back home" stated House District 39 Representative Rudy Martinez. While Martinez was happy to see some productive legislation get through the legislature, he is concerned about the role of the executive. Martinez went on to say "I am very dismayed that our Governor has decided to play political games with New Mexico's future. As a member of the Finance and Appropriations Committee, we were very proud to present a bipartisan budget that works for hard working New Mexicans. Unfortunately, the Governor is looking to balance the budget on the backs of our students, teachers, and state employees, and I can tell you that I will not support more cuts to our essential services. Enough is enough."

Senator Howie Morales serves as a member of the Senate Finance Committee which was instrumental in passing the recently vetoed budget. Rep. Martinez and Sen. Morales introduced legislation during the 60-day session with an emphasis that would create revenue, promote public education, and increase public safety.
