Quemado, NM ' The Gila National Forest, Quemado Ranger District has scheduled to remove the wooden footbridge located on the east side of Quemado Lake on Forest Service Trail #14 on April 21. The footbridge is unstable as some of the wooden planks and support beams are weathered and beginning to rot. Continued use of the bridge places hikers at risk.

The district is working with Forest Engineers to replace the bridge in the next couple of months. Both the Largo Trail (#14) and the Lakeshore Trail (#144) located in the Quemado Lake Recreation Area will remain open to the public. The area where the footbridge is located will be posted and hikers are advised to not go beyond the posted area.

For more information about this project or hiking opportunities on the Quemado Ranger District contact Lisa Dennisson, Recreation Specialist, at 575-773-4578.
