The annual Give-Grandly event is here once again. Take part in this 24 hour giving event by donating to The Volunteer Center. The Give Grandly nonprofit fair will be held on 7th Street, next to the Silver City Farmers' Market on opening day Saturday May 6, from 8:30am to 2:00pm. Please help by supporting our efforts to relieve food insecurity and poverty in Grant County. On May 6th you have 24 hours to donate. Attend the event in person, or donate online. Click on our home page tvcgrantcounty.org and scroll to the bottom of the page to find the Give Grandly logo. | Our New Website is Live!!!
 Back in February, after a series of glitches and a power outage at the site of our previous web hosting company, our old website was erased and no backup could be located. After months of hard work and dedication, we are delighted to announce our new website is now live. Although we are still working out some bugs and editing our information, the public can preview the new site at www.tvcgrantcounty.org. Our goal with this new website is to provide our visitors an easier way to learn about The Volunteer Center's services and solutions and also to allow the visitor to browse information based on their own choice. The new website is interactive and gives better access to Who We Are, What We Do, Programs and Services, Our Food Pantry, Our Community Kitchen, Our Commons Garden, Support, as well as information pertaining to each program. We will be updating our content with helpful information, articles, and events. We hope you find the new website with a fresh look and easy to access information.  Our typical 50 lb. box going to a family in need of 1 - 4 people includes 25 lbs. produce, 22 lbs. grocery items and 3 lbs. of staple foods (pinto beans, brown rice, and rolled oats purchased from Diaz Farms and SC Food Co-op). Our cost is $5.76 for 50 lbs. of mostly quality food. Produce valued at $1.49/lb., groceries at $0.99/lb. and staples at $1.49/lb., which all would total to $61.04. Your cash donation of $100.00 buys 17.3 food boxes and spares $1056.00 in recipients' budgets, which mostly turns over elsewhere in our local economy. This system works and has nothing to do with government. There is however some government food that goes with the food distribution. It's typically 4 lbs. and is on top of the 50 lb. box...totaling to about 7.5% of poundage. We wholeheartedly thank the many individuals and institutions who support us and make this all possible! The value of the many, many volunteer hours it takes to pull off these food distributions is off the charts. At the end of the day this all works together to lend a helping hand to individuals and the local economy simultaneously! If you would like to contribute to our organization, please click here. | SPOTLIGHT We'd like to send out a huge "Thank You!" to the Rotary Club of Grant County for their financial and volunteer support on our school garden projects! We received a grant from the club to build school garden infrastructure including a shed at Jose Barrios School Garden, raised bed gardens for Harrison Schmitt, and picnic tables, benches, and podiums for 6th St, Harrison Schmitt, and Jose Barrios Elementary Schools! Not only did they help us receive funding, but they also showed up to work at our garden work days!
