The theme of the 2017 Summer Reading Program at the Silver City Public Library is "Build a Better World," and the library will be hosting a food drive during the summer to benefit the Grant County Community Food Pantry. Nonperishable food items will be accepted at the library all summer. During the week of June 12 through June 17 patrons who have lost their library cards can get a free replacement card with the donation of a food item.

The summer food drive is the result of collaboration between the library and the Volunteer Center of Grant County. The Volunteer Center has developed programs aimed at offering people access to enough fresh, locally grown food to lead healthy, productive lives. With the help of hundreds of volunteers, generous donors and community partnerships, The Volunteer Center makes their vision reality for food-insecure children and families in Grant County. For more information about the Volunteer Center food distribution programs, see www.tvcgrantcounty.org/the-food-pantry.

"A key part of the library's mission is to strengthen our communities.
