Silver City, NM, October 14, 2017: The Volunteer Center will be hosting a Harvest Celebration in Grant County, Saturday, October 14, from 10 AM to 2 PM, at the Commons (501 E. 13th St.).

Highlights of this festival will include hammermill processing of mesquite beans, apple cider processing, seed sharing and a community potluck lunch. Visitors are encouraged to bring their favorite dishes to share at this event, which promises to be mouth-watering. The Volunteer Center's Commons is located just behind Silver City's Knights of Columbus Hall.

During the festival, TVC will be extending a warm welcome to its new Co-Executive Directors, Kristin Lundgren and Sam Schramski, who will be steering one of the only shared leadership nonprofits in the region.

Kristin has been affiliated with TVC since 2012, when she started out as a garden manager before ascending to the position of Interim Director in June. She is well-known in the community and brings years of experience in youth and food justice programming to bear. She and the volunteer group interested in native edible crops known as the "Mesquitos" are the masterminds behind this year s event.

Sam is a new resident of Silver City, having come to town most recently from Indiana University. In his brief time there, Sam was Research Coordinator at the Center for the Analysis of Social-Ecological Landscapes and a freelance writer and editor. He has a Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Ecology and has a background in a number of sustainability issues, the most significant of which is climate change adaptation amongst poor and marginalized populations. He is originally from Tucson and has visited Silver frequently over the past several years.

Kristin and Sam hope that as many community members as possible will be able to attend this year's Harvest Celebration, ensuring that it continues as an annual event for many years to come. Join us in welcoming in our new directorial team and in sharing one of your favorite dishes at what is sure to be a very festive and scrumptious event.
