Auditions for Agatha Christie's A Murder Is Announced take place Sunday, December 10 at 2 p.m., and Monday, December 11 at 5 p.m., both in the Silver City Co-op's former Marketplace Cafe, 614 N. Bullard, according to Silver City Community Theatre producer Liz Mikols.

"We're looking for seven women and five men," says Mikols. "While we need actors of all ages, half will be in their 20s."

The play, based on Christie's fiftieth mystery novel, opens with villagers responding to an invitation to a crime. There's a shot in the dark and a resulting body. A roomful of witnesses harbors motives. The police detective needs all the help he can muster from Miss Marple. First adapted to the stage in 1956, A Murder is Announced starred Gracie Fields, Roger Moore and Jessica Tandy.

The theater group, which just completed a successful outing of the comedy Don't Drink the Water, will stage the mystery at the end of February and beginning of March. Rehearsals will begin in January.

"Any Grant Countian who has a secret ambition to be in front of footlights should accept our invitation to try out," Mikols announces. "Our players are not going to have to speak in Cockney or even an Oxford accent. Many outstanding players in our past productions discovered their talent by responding to a casting call."
