Silver City, NM: Aldo Leopold Charter School has set Lottery dates for the 2018-19 school year and is currently accepting applications for the first Lottery on February 15, 2018. All new students wanting to attend the school in grades 6 through 12 need to apply through the Lottery. Application Packets can be picked up at the front office (1422 Highway 180 East) or downloaded from the school website (www.aldocs.org). There will be nine separate lottery drawings held between February 16 and July 27. Please call the front desk if you have any questions (575-538-2547). Aldo Leopold Charter School is a tuition free public charter school open to all students in Grant County. Students must be eligible for enrollment in New Mexico public schools, and not been expelled from any other school.
With the planned re-location of the school to the new larger facility on the campus of Western New Mexico University in August of 2018, we are expecting an increase in enrollment and a possible waiting list in each grade. We are encouraging new families to enter the earlier Lotteries to increase their chances of placement. Siblings of current students receive priority, but must enter the Lottery. Aldo Leopold Charter School is authorized by the NM Public Education Department to enroll no more than 210 students school-wide. 30 students in each grade.

Aldo Leopold Charter School is a tuition free public charter school that provides an engaging and challenging educational program for grades 6 through 12 emphasizing direct experience, inquiry learning, stimulation of the creative process, and stewardship of our community and natural environment.
Last year Aldo Leopold Charter School was named “Bronze Award” winner in the 2017 U.S News and World Report’s “Best High Schools in America”. Of the 37 New Mexico schools ranked among the U.S. News Best High Schools, five earned silver medals and 30 received bronze medals. Two schools earned the Gold Award. Aldo Leopold charter School was ranked 12th and received a Bronze Award.
