The Silver City/Southwest NM Branch of AAUW invites members and visitors to attend our meeting on Wednesday March 21 from noon to 1:30 pm at the Gender Equity Center on the WNMU campus at 1211 Mississippi Street.

We are gearing up to celebrate our 80th anniversary. Early in September 1938, eleven women met and organized the Grant County Branch, which is now the Silver City Branch, of the American Association of University Women. Over the years, the Branch has been an active advocate for women's and girl's issues. The official date of our anniversary is October 27. We will have displays in the Silver City Library in the month of October to honor our 80th anniversary.

At this meeting we will plan in more detail our 80th birthday celebration. One project will be a voter registration drive to register 80 new voters. Come to this meeting to participate in our planning and to learn more about what our AAUW branch does.

One of our major projects over the last 26 years has been our EYH (Expanding Your Horizons) conferences which encourage 5th – 8th grade girls in the South West of New Mexico to pursue STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) careers.

The mission statement of AAUW: Advancing equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research. The American Association of University Women (AAUW) is the nation's leading voice promoting equity and education for women and girls.
