Silver City, NM, November 8, 2018— The Gila National Forest, Silver City Ranger District will be implementing seasonal closures from November 16 to March 31, effective Friday, November 16 for some campgrounds for the winter season. 

The following campgrounds will be closed:

• Iron Creek Campground, located in the Black Range Mountains off NM State Highway 152
• Upper Gallinas Campground, located in the Black Range Mountains off NM State Highway 152
• Railroad Canyon Campground, located in the Black Range Mountains off NM State Highway 152
• Cherry Creek Campground, located off NM State Highway 15
• McMillan Campground, located off NM State Highway 15

“We close these campgrounds due to safety concerns during inclement weather.  We encourage forest visitors to check weather and road conditions prior to heading out on the Forest” said Beth Ihle, District Ranger. Visitors should also be mindful of hazards that can be present during the colder months, such as sudden weather and temperature changes and falling trees due to windy and/or snowy conditions.
