You’ll come away with a full belly and a full heart!

SILVER CITY, September 17— Enjoy a delicious meal for a good cause, and take home a beautiful handmade keepsake! On Saturday, October 26 from 11 am – 2 pm, visit The Commons at 501 East 13th Street to participate in the Empty Bowls fundraiser. Empty Bowls is an international event that began in 1990 to raise awareness about the issue of hunger.

For our Grant County event, the bowls were hand-crafted (at Syzygy Tile) by community members during the Clay Festival, and glazed during the Gila River Festival. The bowls will then be sold at the fundraiser, along with a meal that features a variety of soups to choose from, served with bread and dessert, all for a donation of $20 (or more if you so choose). You’ll come away from the event with a full belly, a full heart, and a bowl that’s a one-of-a-kind work of art.

Proceeds from Empty Bowls will benefit the several food pantries operated by The Commons: Center for Food Security and Sustainability. These include two monthly pantries for Silver City residents, one in the Mining District, one in Gila, and one in Hachita. All-told, they feed 800-1,000 households every month, and numbers seem to be on the rise.

Tickets can be purchased at the door, or ahead of time at Tranquil Buzz, Jumping Cactus, or The Commons. Advance purchases enable you to bypass the ticket-sales line on the day of the event. For more information, visit: https://tvcgrantcounty.org.

The Commons: Center for Food Security and Sustainability is a 501(c)(3) organization.
