Customers are urged to Boil Water Prior to Drinking

(Santa Fe, N.M.) –The New Mexico Environment Department's (NMED) Drinking Water Bureau has issued a "precautionary boil water advisory" for the Timberon Water & Sanitation District (W&SD).
 
NMED issued the precautionary advisory on January 28, 2013 following a major water outage and low water pressure in other parts of their distribution system caused by leaking and frozen water lines. The Timberon W&SD is located approximately 30 miles southeast of Alamogordo, NM in Otero County. NMED recommends that the Timberon W&SD notify water consumers of the precautionary advisory. This advisory only applies to drinking water for the Timberon W&SD and does not extend to any of the other surrounding water systems. The drinking water system serves a population of approximately 300 people.
 
The Timberon W&SD water consumers are advised to seek an alternate source of drinking water, such as bottled water, or boil the water for five minutes before drinking, cooking and dishwashing. This is a precautionary advisory only as no contamination has been detected in the drinking water system at this time.
 
The NMED Drinking Water Bureau will provide technical assistance to the water system and require the Timberon W&SD to test the water to ensure no contamination has occurred during the outage.
