Environment Department Issues “Precautionary Boil Water Advisory” For Lumberton MDWCA

Customers are urged to Boil Water Prior to Drinking
 
(Santa Fe, N.M.) –The New Mexico Environment Department's (NMED) Drinking Water Bureau has issued a “precautionary boil water advisory” for the Lumberton Mutual Domestic Water Consumers Association (MDWCA). NMED issued the precautionary advisory on January 29, 2013 following a major water outage caused by a leaking and frozen water line. The Lumberton MDWCA is located approximately 20 miles north west of Chama, NM in Rio Arriba County. NMED recommends that the Lumberton MDWCA notify water consumers of the precautionary advisory. This advisory only applies to drinking water for the Lumberton MDWCA and does not extend to any of the other surrounding water systems. The drinking water system serves a population of approximately 250 people.
 
The Lumberton MDWCA water consumers are advised to seek an alternate source of drinking water, such as bottled water, or boil the water for five minutes before drinking, cooking and dishwashing. This is a precautionary advisory only as no contamination has been detected in the drinking water system at this time.
 
The NMED Drinking Water Bureau will provide technical assistance to the water system and require the Lumberton MDWCA to test the water to ensure no contamination has occurred during the outage.
