Bilingual storytelling, with Maria Vigil, who will read from Calling the Doves/El Canto de Las Palomas, Juan Felipe Herrera's vibrant, loving memoir of his migrant worker childhood.


Among her many accomplishments, Vigil has written and presented a 33 episode ESEA program for educational television, and workshops in primary language development, Chicano History Through the Corrido, Creative Dramatics, Teatro Juvenil at national and international conferences.

 
She served as a training specialist for Title VII Bilingual Education Center in California and in Mexico in Educational Exchanges. California selected her as the Teacher of the Year and in 1992 received the National Educator Award.
Viil wrote and performed in La Vuelta de la Vida, a fifteen episode Radio Novela for the Grant County Department of Health, the Community Health Comission, the NM Department of Health, Con Alma Health and the Wellness Coalition.

In 2012, Vigil played the role of Abuela in Sunflowers, Victoria Tester's play inspired by true, tragic events among the lives of Hispanic miners in New Mexico Territory.
